Housing Queensland annual reports
A case study
Five years of annual reports for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Housing Queensland
Since the 2020/21 financial year, I've designed every annual report for Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Housing Queensland. Five consecutive reports, now beginning the sixth. Each is a culturally considered, artwork-rich document of up to 92 pages, delivered to a tight AGM deadline despite content arriving late and in pieces. The reports are consistently praised by the board and have grown stronger year on year.

The client
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Housing Queensland provides housing and support across the state. Its annual report is a key accountability and storytelling document. Read by the board, members, funders and the communities it serves, so it has to be clear, credible, and true to the organisation's identity and values.

The challenge
Designing this report well means solving several problems at once, every year:
A hard AGM deadline
A set AGM deadline that never moves, even when content does.
Content from multiple sources
Messages, achievements and data come from multiple people at different times, and financial details are always last to be supplied
A work in progress
Content isn't always set in stone. Sections move and others change as the year's story takes shape.
A large, growing document
Over the years, the annual reports have ranged from 52 to 92 pages.
Genuine cultural respect
The design must always reflect the organisation's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identity authentically, not as decoration
The approach
Culturally led design
Every report is built around a strong Indigenous visual identity. Aboriginal artwork and textures woven throughout, so the document feels authentic to the organisation and the communities it represents, not templated.
Bringing order to a moving brief
I collate content as it arrives from across the team. Whatever order it comes, it is shaped into a clear, logical narrative across the report's ten core sections, from the Chairperson and CEO messages through to governance, achievements, statewide support, people and financials. The team reviews as it builds, and we work through to a polished final in time for the AGM.
Authentic imagery, never AI
The achievements and highlights run to multiple pages of captioned photography showcasing the year's work. Every image is professionally retouched for print (colour correction and enhancement only). No AI generation, ever. These are real people and real communities, and they're shown truthfully. That integrity matters for a document like this.
Building year on year
Rather than starting from scratch each year, each report evolves from the last. Refining the system, improving the storytelling, and getting stronger every cycle.

The result
Delivered on deadline every year
Always in time for the AGM, despite late content and shifting sections.
Consistently well received
Board members regularly comment favourably on the report.
Continuously improving
Each year builds on the last, and the reports have grown in both scale and polish.
Every annual report since 2020/21
Trusted to design five in a row, now starting the sixth. Repeat trust is the clearest measure of a report that works.

Authentic Natural Intelligence
This report represents real people, real communities and real outcomes. Every image is enhanced honestly, colour-corrected and retouched, never AI-generated or altered to misrepresent reality. Because integrity is the whole point of a document like this.

A happy client
Working with Myck has been a wonderful experience. He takes the time to understand our organisation and the importance of the work we do, and his annual report design always reflects that care and attention.
